Let’s be honest, as much as you would like to have endless Nekter juices, smoothies and açai bowls at your fingertips, it’s not likely that you can get to your local Nekter on the regular, right? Life happens. We know this, and while we welcome your visits to our stores as often as possible we want to make sure you’re fit to make your own smoothies at home. You know, for those days you want to spend in your pajamas watching Netflix or when you’re home with the kids who caught the flu and you need a pick me up or even when you’ve got loads of laundry and emails to catch up on and you just can’t leave the house. We’ve got you covered.
What you’ll need:
- First things first, you’ll need a blender. Yes, a Vitamix is next level for juices but not everyone has the luxury of that kind of horsepower, so a good old fashioned blender will do just the trick for a smoothie, we promise.
- Ingredients are key – 1) because you want the flavors to come together well and 2) because you want to ensure you’re receiving the best health benefits. The usual suspects are best and the easiest to find at your local grocer: bananas, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, apples, spinach, kale, and agave for the cherry on top. Your local grocer (Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s) should have cashew milk or almond milk and coconut water as well.
Measurements for 1 serving:
*When measuring your liquid, you’ll want to add ¾ cup (almond milk, cashew milk, coconut water)
*Bananas: ½ medium banana will do
*Berries: 1 cup of blueberries, raspberries, or diced strawberries
*Apples: ½ apple
*Pineapple: 1 cup pineapple chunks
*Agave or Raw Honey: 1 tsp
If you’re making a smoothie for one, it’s best to fill the blender about a ¼ full with your ingredients. For that chill factor, add a little ice (about 4-5 cubes). Don’t be afraid to play around with the combinations and see what suits you. Do keep in mind that apples and pineapples add sweetness so if you’re going to add agave you’ll need about 1 tsp full.
